Where Do My Taxes Go?

Property taxes must be paid annually by anyone who owns a home or a commercial property. The property taxes that you pay are used for a number of things, and most or all of the money you pay in property tax remains inside your community.

When you pay your property tax bill, the money you are spending goes to a number of important programs. Funding of government operations, road construction and maintenance, law enforcement, and drainage are just some of the necessities within the community that are paid for with your tax dollars.

The tax recap (see "Tax Distributions" at left) identifies how and to what agencies the collected property taxes are distributed.

"Leading Taxpayers" at right list the top 10 taxpayers in St. Martinville for each of the years listed.
